A fishing boat in a museum? Why not?
And what if we brought all our visitors to the ocean?
This is what the Musée de la Gaspésie thought when it added a virtual experience to the physical visit of a historic fishing boat―the Gaspésienne no. 20, allowing today’s visitors to rub shoulders with friendly fishermen of the 1960s as they went about their daily routines on the ocean.
As an experience like no other in Québec, the story of the Gaspésienne no. 20 immerses the viewer in real, tangible history through the magic of virtual reality. Visitors find themselves living in close quarters with colorful cod fishermen and become privileged eyewitnesses to the lifestyle, joys, and concerns of the crew while experiencing an industry (and a boat!) that has left its mark on the region.
360° photography, green screen and on-location shoots, as well as all the research and development… over 1500 hours of hard work allowed us to accurately recreate the ambiance and reality of the heady days of the Gaspésienne!
